Four robbers arrested

BOGOR (JP): Local police have arrested four out of seven men believed to have been involved in a series of robberies here, in Tangerang and Bandung, an officer said.

Bogor Police chief Lt. Col. Edmon Ilyas said Monday the four suspects, identified as Lamsaud Galingging, 26, P. Harahap, 28, Sitanggang, 30, and Sihombing, 33, were arrested Saturday at their rented house on Jl. Baru, Cimanggu, Bogor.

He said the police also seized a Kijang van, two televisions, five swords, two lamps, two crowbars, a video compact disc player and a toy gun from the suspects.

"We have identified the other three robbers. We hope to catch them soon," Edmon said.

In their operation, the men allegedly broke into houses, threatened the occupants and stole cash and other valuables, he said.

They also threatened to kill and rape their victims if they refused to reveal where they kept their valuables, he said.

"But not one of their victims has been injured so far," Edmon said.

He said the suspects could be charged under Article 365 of the Criminal Code which carries a maximum punishment of nine years in jail. (24/jun)
