Four prisoners escape in Lampung

BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: Four prisoners escaped from the Rajabasa prison early Thursday, a press report stated yesterday.

Prison officials said the convicts escaped after they broke through the ceiling and clambered over the prison's walls using strips of their sarongs.

They were identified as Subagyo bin Mario, 41, doing 15 years for murder; Suparno, 39, two years for robbery; Giman bin Kasidin, 49, 12 years for robbery; and Seni bin Bakir, 43, eight years for robbery.

Chief of the Lampung justice office, B.J. Mathaus, said the escapees managed to evade 15 on-duty prison guards, Antara reported.

They were thought to have escaped at about 3 a.m., shortly after prison guards had carried out an inspection. The 15 prison guards, who were caught off-guard, have been questioned. (pan)
