Four meet records broken at interclub swim c'ships
YOGYAKARTA (JP): Four meet records were broken at the national inter-club swimming (KRAPNAS) championships here yesterday.
Armand Panji of Lampung's Jaka Utama Club was the first swimmer to break the KRAPNAS record in the men's senior 400 meters freestyle. He recorded a time of 4 minutes and 15.60 seconds and broke his own record of 4:15.98. This record is, however, far below the national record of 4:02.04 set by Albert C. Sutanto.
Akbar Nasution of Jakarta's Pari Sakti Club also broke the KRAPNAS record in the men's junior 400m freestyle with a time of 4:23.89. The old record was 4:28.49.
Ati Yuliani of Temanggung's Bumi Phala Club broke the KRAPNAS women's junior 400m freestyle. She clocked 4:41.61 and broke her own record set 1996 of 4:48.64.
Andi Wibowo broke the KRAPNAS men's senior 100m backstroke record timing 1:02.71. He broke his own record of 1:03.86. Andi is Ati's clubmate.
Silvy Triana of Jakarta's Tirtamas Taruna Club, broke the KRAPNAS women's senior 100m backstroke record with a time of 1:08.07. She broke her own record set in 1996 of 1:10.34. This record is also far from the national record of 1:05.57 held by Elsa Monor Nasution.
The KRAPNAS championships continues through tomorrow. About 960 swimmers from 74 clubs in 20 provinces are taking part in the three-day championships.
The championships is divided into three categories, senior (15 years and up), junior (11-14 years) and beginners (10 years and below).
It is being held at the Teaching Training Institute's swimming stadium. Patuan P. Simatupang of the Indonesian Swimming Association opened the championships. (swa)
