Four foreigners deported

PALU, Central Sulawesi: The immigration office here has deported four foreigners since January for overstaying their visas, an official said on Thursday.

Head of the justice ministry's office Edwin Sihombing said two of the aliens were Australians, one was a Czech woman and the other a Dutchman.

Sihombing said the Dutch national, Michael J. Brookman, was not checked by immigration officials when he entered the country from the Malaysian island of Nunukan.

"It could happen because we lack personnel to oversee such a major expanse of sea," Sihombing said. "They could enter Indonesia using speedboats or fishermen's boats."

He suspected that many companies illegally employed expatriates as diving instructors. (38)
