Four Ecstasy dealers detained

DENPASAR, Bali: Four people are still being detained by police for separately attempting to smuggle in more than 45,000 Ecstasy pills worth over Rp 4.5 billion (US$2 million) into the tourist haven recently.

Police identified the suspects as Isac Thayeb, 43, from Ujungpandang, who was in possession of 30,464 pills; Bob Said, 38, from Amsterdam, with 100 pills; Dartono, 35, from Medan, with 9,771 pills; and Wirht Wesley Delano, 41, from Surinam, with 5,635 pills.

"We will announce action regarding the suspects in due time," spokesman for the local police command Lt. Col. Lalu Budiardja was quoted by Antara on Saturday as saying.

Lalu denied charges that the police were too slow in handling the highly publicized case. He said the job involves several related agencies. (pan)
