Four die in train accident

PEMALANG, C. Java: Four men hitching a ride on a cargo train headed for Semarang from Jakarta were crushed to death Sunday afternoon when the train derailed near Comal railway station, Antara reported.

The four victims were Rudi, 12, Budi, 40, and two other males who have not yet been identified but are estimated to be aged between 40 and 50.

The accident delayed two other trains plying the same route, while five other trains were rerouted through Cirebon and Purwokerto.

Officials at the railway company Perumka said Sunday repair work could take nine hours, conducted by hundreds of workers from several railway stations.

There were no details about the cause of the accident, but Pemalang police had started an investigation. (swe)
