Four die in diarrhea outbreak

BANDUNG: Four people have died and 156 others have entered hospital as a plague of diarrhea swept through Padalarang last week, a local official said yesterday.

Padalarang administrative affairs chief Iim Imanudin told Antara that people in eight villages had got diarrhea. He said those who died were between one and a half years and nine years old.

Village clinics were crammed with people seeking medical aid last Thursday.

"Those in a serious condition were sent to hospitals in Bandung and Cimahi," Iim said.

He said most of those affected were children. "This health problem usually arises because of insanitary conditions."
