Four die during violent storm
KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: Four people were killed when a tree fell on top of a hut during a violent storm in Tarawajo village, Ngada regency Wednesday.
Ngada Regent Johannis Aoh said yesterday Onga, 50, and his 10- year-old daughter Rosa da Lima Dhoe Reba, Oliva Izu, 30, and Maria Edo Dheu, 25, died on the spot after the old sugar palm tree fell onto the shelter they were sharing.
"They found the hut the only shelter to protect them from the heavy rain, but unfortunately the storm was so strong that the old tree near the hut tumbled," Aoh told Antara.
He said the local administration had donated some money to the families of the victims. It was not revealed how much.
Aoh said more than three houses in the regency were destroyed in the storm, but nobody was killed. (amd)
