Four con artists captured

PEMALANG, Central Java (JP): The Police captured a gang of four local traders, one of them a woman, suspected to have swindled hundreds of million rupiah from their trading partners, the Antara news agency reported on Saturday.

Chief of the district police Lt. Col. Soedibyo said the suspects had been on the wanted list because they had often been reported for cheating people.

He said the suspects claimed they could multiply their partners' money and make them rich without toil as long as the partners gave them a certain amount of money.

He said the gang's well-dressed members usually drove a sedan with Jakarta license plates and used to bring along a suitcase full of bank notes to impress their victims.

Soedibyo said five persons had reported to the police that they had fallen victim to the gang. Each of them reported that they had submitted tens of millions of rupiah to the gang but with nothing in return as promised.(imn)
