Former starlet acquitted

DENPASAR, Bali: Denpasar District Court acquitted on Saturday former child starlet Faradilla Sandy, 34, of charges of drug possession due to lack of evidence.

The child star was brought to court after police allegedly found her with Ecstasy pills as well as an inhaler for Shabu Shabu crystal metamphetamine at her house here in July.

"The evidence and witnesses' testimony clearly showed that there was no relation between Faradilla Sandy and the drugs found in the attic of her house in the Renon area," Nyoman Gede Sugiantara, the defendant's lawyer said.

Prosecutor IGA Sasmita and Srigati Gejer earlier demanded one year's imprisonment and a Rp 20 million fine as Faradilla was said to be in flagrant violation of Psychotropic Law No. 5/1997 for drug-related possession.

"I'm so glad to be free and that I have finally proven my innocence," Faradilla said.(zen/edt)
