Former minister to be questioned

SURABAYA, East Java: The provincial legislative assembly plans to summon former information minister R. Hartono to shed light on the murder of labor activist Marsinah in 1993.

Head of the local assembly's special team on Marsinah, Djarot Syaiful Hidayat, was quoted by Antara on Friday as saying that Hartono's account might be crucial as he was the provincial military commander when Marsinah was murdered.

Many believe military personnel were involved in the murder and the government of President Abdurrahman Wahid has pledged to reopen the case.

Marsinah, a worker at watch factory PT Catur Putra Surya in Porong, East Java, was found dead in the Nganjuk area in May 1993.

Marsinah was allegedly killed for organizing rallies to demand better salaries.(byg)
