Forkot returns to Jl. Cendana

JAKARTA (JP): Dozens of members of the City Forum (Forkot) rallied near former president Soeharto's residence on Jl. Cendana, Central Jakarta, on Saturday, demanding that the man whom they dubbed as a human rights violator be brought to court.

The protesters said that the rally was staged to commemorate International Human Rights Day on Dec. 10.

As in their previous rallies, the group members -- mostly students -- marched toward Soeharto's residence while singing songs popular among student demonstrations.

Dozens of police officers, however, prevented the group from getting near Soeharto's house.

The protesters also chanted shalawat, praising Prophet Muhammad.

They then dispersed peacefully after making some orations, saying that Soeharto deserved the death penalty for corruption and human rights violations during his 32-year tenure. (jaw)
