Forget past imperfect?

I agree with most of the contents of D. Chandramouli's letter Cut out the sensationalism in The Jakarta Post of April 24, 2000, except the last paragraph.

Why should we only think of the "present" and focus only on the "future" when the "present" will become the "past" in the future? One more thing -- would, then, D. Chandramouli tell Simon Wiesenthal and his team from the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Vienna not to pursue investigations into the "past", as Hitler is long dead and the Nazis have been punished?
