Forests destruction in Lampung

BANDARLAMPUNG, Lampung: The Lampung provincial office of the Environmental Waste Management called on new State Minister of the Environment Nabiel Makarim to give serious attention to deforestation in the province.

Rachmat Abdullah, chairman of the Environmental Waste Management office, said Nabiel, known as an environmental activist, should design a new national program to help preserve the environment and to stop people from illegaly occupying the forests.

He called on the central government to allocate part of the reforestation funds to help repair the deforested areas and to maintain the protected forest in the province.

He applauded Nabiel's appointment as State Minister of the Environment because he has spent much of his time in environmental affairs.
