Forestry ministry, NGOs sign MOU

JAKARTA: The forestry ministry signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Wednesday with Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) and Greenomics Indonesia on anticorruption cooperation in the ministry's 22 projects.

Ministry secretary-general Wahyudi Wardoyo said the two non- governmental organizations would be given access to the ministry's database to enable them to monitor it and provide input to the ministry, which is entitled to probe any violations.

According to the MOU, which lasts for three years, both NGOs would be involved in the nationwide reforestation program, investigation of illegal logging and other projects.

ICW coordinator Teten Masduki called on people always to remind the ministry's officials of the need to stick to their commitment. -- Antara
