Forest ransackers reach Sunda islets

BANDARLAMPUNG: The forest ransackers has reportedly reach some islets in Sunda strait, Antara reported yesterday.

They have even now reached volcanic Pulau Panjang, Anak Krakatau, Rakata Besar and Pulau Sertung. Some 500 people have settled at Pulau Sebesi, about 10 miles from the bigger island Anak Krakatau.

They live from fishing, planting coconut and banana in the islands that government has set as prohibited areas for living.

Spokesman of the local Forestry Agency said there are some 91,000 forest ransackers here and some 31.900 families dwell in the conservation forests. (prs)
