Foreigners remain calm in Bogor

BOGOR: The Bogor Police said on Monday that in the wake of the Bali bombings they had tightened security for foreigners in the area.

The deputy chief of the Bogor Police, Comr. Tomex, said officers were also ready to provide protection for foreigners traveling from Bogor to Bandung or Jakarta.

According to Saffar Muhamad Godam from the Bogor Immigration Office, there had been no exodus of foreigners from the area. He said there were 750 foreigners, mostly South Koreans, in Bogor, Sukabumi and Cianjur, excluding the 247 illegal immigrants under the care of the International Organization for Migration.

He said most of the South Koreans were here for business, while a number of Dutch and German nationals had retired to the area.

There are reportedly some 40 South Korean-owned companies operating in Bogor. --JP
