Foreigners latest target of theft

TANGERANG: Two foreign nationals, identified as Jennifer and Paul Preskott, lost Rp 500 million (about US$49,063) and valuable documents when they stopped to change a tire on their rental car in Tangerang on Tuesday, Detikcom reported on Wednesday.

The Preskotts were leaving Soekarno-Hatta International Airport when they became aware that the rear left tire on the car was flat. They stopped to change the tire on Jl. MH Thamrin in Kebon Nanas, Tangerang.

An unknown number of thieves are thought to have made off with the money and documents while the two victims were working on the tire.

It is believed the flat tire was caused by nails strewn across the road, a classic ploy to force vehicles to stop and to distract the owners while thieves make off with their belongings.

Police were still investigating the case on Wednesday. -- JP
