Foreigners caught with fake passports

JAKARTA (JP): Soekarno-Hatta International Airport immigration officers have arrested three foreigners for allegedly using false passports, police said on Sunday.

City police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said the two German nationals, AH and DS, and an Iraqi citizen, RS, were caught on Friday night before they boarded the same flight to Australia.

"They were apprehended after immigration officers checked their passports and noticed that they were fake," Aritonang said.

During questioning the three confessed to having obtained the fake passports from Iwan, whom they said claimed to be an immigration employee, the officer explained.

"We ran a checks on the three foreigners and it transpired that they have all overstayed their visas. All of them have been here for more than 60 days," Aritonang said.

The three are currently being held at the city police headquarters pending further investigation. (edt)
