Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA News) - Foreign investors hope that Aceh would provide legal certainty for investment in the province regardless of the fact that Aceh has recovered from regional conflict and the aftermath of the December 26, 2004 tsunami.

US Consul General in Medan (North Sumatra) Stanly Harsha, said here on Saturday that Aceh needed legal certainty and better implementation of the Islamic sharia to attract international investment.

Harsha made the remarks on the sidelines of an Aceh Business Summit which was attended by domestic and foreign businessmen.

The US consul general admitted that Aceh had now better conditions than those in the past but there were still several crucial points that needed to be improved to generate investment growth.

He said that security and Islamic sharia issues were much discussed by international business community, a topic which they take into account in deciding to invest in Aceh.

But if these issues handled well it would not pose any problem for foreign investors, according to Harsha in his presentation before Aceh businesspeople who attended the Aceh Business Summit.

In the meantime, President of the American Indonesia Chamber of Commerce, Wyne Forest, also expressed the same opinion, saying that legal certainties were main concern for foreign investors.

Apart from legal certainties, Aceh also needed increased cooperation and network in the world trade in order to help develop its economic development.

It needs to spread information through the Internet. Foreign investors needed information on legal guarantee and security issues, he said.(*)
