Foreign crossers in Medan

MEDAN, North Sumatra (JP): New Zealand's Peter Broxholme heads a foreign assault on the third leg of the Gudang Garam Supercross Asia at Maryland Paya Pasir, near here this weekend.

Riding a Honda, Broxholme, who won the second leg to top the standings, is expecting yet another stiff challenge from Japan's Yuya Ozaki, winner of the opening leg.

Crossers from Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, China, Malaysia and Singapore will also measure their skills against local opponents in the prestigious 125cc Special Engine category.

"This is going to be a must-see race particularly because it's the last one before the grand final in Malaysia," promoter Helmy Sungkar said.

Apart from the Asian series, the event will also offer local crossers points to improve their national rankings as the organizers have arranged it as the seventh stop of the national championship series.

Local participants will also compete in 100cc and 80cc divisions.

Governor Rizal Nurdin is scheduled to raise the checkered flag for the crossers on Sunday. Qualifying races will take place on Saturday. (42)
