Foreign countries donate contraceptives

MATARAM: Several foreign countries such as Japan, the Netherlands and Australia have pledged to donate contraceptives to Indonesia, National Family Planning Coordinating Board (BKKBN) head Yaumil Agus Achir says.

The contraceptives, including intrauterine device and implants, will be distributed free to the poorer participants of family planning programs, she said.

She did not reveal the value of the contraceptives or when they would be delivered.

The contraceptives will be implanted by paramedics in hospitals, public health centers and family planning help centers run by BKKBN.

"We have to try to limit the population otherwise the country's current population will double in the next 25 years," she said.

Indonesia has around 215 million inhabitants. -- Antara
