Football just a game

In reply to Chris Atkins' July 25 response to my letter published three days earlier in The Jakarta Post:

* It was all in jest about World Cup '94, kind Sir, all in jest!

* "Holiday on ice" is a show not meant to have goals. The last time I looked, there were two cavernous goal mouths at each end of the football playing field.

* Give me the Olympic Games any day. After all, it was 172 participating nations and 28 different sports at Barcelona '92 against 128 countries playing a single sport, not for everybody, at World Cup '94. Onward to Atlanta '96!

* No, I wasn't "bitter and twisted" after watching the W.C. final. Just as Baggio missed his penalty kick, I remembered the "3-letter word for a female sheep" and completed my "Crossword Puzzler". Exhilaration!

Isn't football just a game and nothing to riot and murder for? What is the meaning of "sport"? Am I managing to put myself over as a level-headed man, dear Sir?
