Food packages for the poor

TANGERANG (JP): The Tangerang Regency office is planning to distribute 6,000 staple food packages to families in 11 districts to mark the country's Independence Day on Aug. 17.

Regent Agus Djunara said over the weekend that the packages of rice, cooking oil,instant noodles and sugar would be distributed in Rajeg, Legok, Mauk, Sepatan, Kronjo, Kresek, Pakuhaji, Kosambi, Tigaraksa, Balaraja and Teluknaga.

The office also plans to hold a series of social activities, such as blood donations, one day free treatment for child birth, mass medical treatment and mass circumcision for orphans and children of the regency's lower ranking officers.

Last year, the regency office distributed 26,800 staple food packages and 37,805 packages of medicine. (41/ind)
