Floods inundate thousands of houses

BANDUNG, West Java: More than one thousand houses in South Bandung regency were inundated on Sunday following heavy rains over the past three days.

The inundated houses were located in four districts -- Baleendah, Dayeuhkolot, Rancaekek and Solokanjeruk.

Two school buildings and four mosques were also submerged.

Water levels in the Bojong Citepus residential area reached up to two meters, prompting hundreds of people to seek higher ground.

"This is the sixth flood during this rainy season. Local residents have prepared themselves (for possible floods)," said Anen, an official at the Dayeuhkolot district administration office.

Some people stayed at their houses despite the flooding.

The disaster also damaged roads, cutting public transportation access to and from Palasari Dayeuhkolot, Cilirung, and Margahayu. -- Antara
