Flooding ruins paddy harvest

JAMBI, Jambi: Flooding over the past week has swept away hundreds of hectares of paddy fields in Jambi province, an official said on Tuesday.

Djunaidi Ilyas, the head of the agricultural office at the Jambi provincial administration, said flooding swept over the paddy fields just days after the farmers had planted their seeds.

Flooding affected several regencies, including Batanghari, Sarolangun and Muarojambi.

Djunaidi said the government was distributing five tons of rice seeds to farmers whose fields were affected by the flooding. -- JP
