Flooding hits Brebes

BREBES, Central Java: Major floods hit the regency yesterday, inundating six villages and 40 hectares of onion fields.

The flooding spread after fast currents of water destroyed a seven-meter long flood dike on the Babakan river following heavy rains from Wednesday and Thursday.

Brebes farmers has already supplied 75 tons of onions to Indofood, one of Indonesia's largest instant noodle producers. It boasts a total of 10,125 hectares of onion fields, according to the local government's figures. (wah)
