Flooding causes traffic jams in Pontianak

PONTIANAK, West Kalimantan: Flooding in the West Kalimantan capital of Pontianak left the city's main thoroughfares underwater on Monday, causing severe traffic jams in much of the city.

The flooding occurred a day after heavy rain fell in the capital.

Cars and motorcycles were left stranded on several streets on Monday, including Jl. Achmad Yani and Jl. Veteran. In other areas, floodwaters reached 50 centimeters high, including on Jl. M.T. Haryono.

Police were out in force guiding traffic and trying to ease the congestion. -- Antara
