Flood warning patrol for trains

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: The local office of state-owned railway company Perumka has instructed employees to patrol portions of the railroad in areas prone to flooding.

Office head, Singgih Abadi, said patrols will alert train drivers to track conditions in the flood-prone area.

"We don't want a repeat of the accidents that happened in the rainy season a few years ago," Singgih told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

Heavy railway traffic passes through Purwokerto from Jakarta, Bandung, Solo and Yogyakarta and train drivers on these routes should slow down and check ahead for possible flooding.

Railroads in the vicinity of Karanggandul and Kroya are particularly prone to flooding. (wah/ste)
