Flood inundates 3,000 houses in Subang

SUBANG, West Java: More than 3,000 houses in Pamanukan district have been flooded since Wednesday, forcing thousands of residents to take refuge elsewhere.

The flooding occurred after heavy rain hit the area on Wednesday. As a result, the Batanggede river burst its banks.

The Cigadung river also burst its banks, further exacerbating the situation.

As of Thursday, the floodwaters were beginning to subside, but in some places the water was still some 75 centimeters deep.

"The situation is improving. Yesterday, the water was one meter deep in some areas," said Ucu, a staffer with the Pemanukan district administration.

According to information provided by the administration, some 4,000 residents have yet to return to their homes. -- Antara
