Flood hits Cilacap villages

CILACAP, Central Java: The beginning of the rainy season here has been marked by flooding in a number of villages, where water from swollen rivers has inundated hundreds of houses.

The flooding resulted from heavy rain over the past two days. Kroya, Maos, Sampang, Sidareja and Adipala have been the hardest hit areas.

"This is a routine flood we experience every year. Fortunately this time around we have not yet planted our paddy seeds," a farmer, Madsuwirya, 50, said on Wednesday.

No fatalities have been reported, but cases of diarrhea are on the rise.

The head of the local health office, Choerul Mufid, said 34 community health centers across the regency each have treated an average of 10 people suffering from diarrhea. (45)
