Flood hits Banjarmasin

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: At least 10,000 houses in four villages in the Satui district, some 175 kilometers away from Banjarmasin, were inundated Friday following days of heavy down pour.

Antara reported there had been no fatalities, but several livestock drowned.

Many Residents have been forced to moved to higher ground. But no firm estimation on the number of people affected by the flood was available.

"The rains have come down heavily for the past three days and practically all business and school activities were halted due to flood," Satui district chief Gusti Jaya Kesuma said.

Local official said it was still raining on Friday afternoon.(edt)
