Flood gates tell no worries

JAKARTA: Heavy rains that hit Bogor, Puncak and Depok in the last two days were not enough to trigger flood fears in Jakarta on Saturday.

Imih, who staffs the Depok flood gate, said water levels were still normal. "We will be in an alert situation if the measurement showed an increase of 200 cm," he said.

The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) have predicted the rainy season to peak between January and February.

Floods plague the capital. The city administration has set up a new flood anticipation unit to help cope. -- Antara
