Flood destroys bridge in Palu

PALU, Central Sulawesi: Major floods swept through the province yesterday, destroying a bridge and carrying away at least 10 houses but causing no fatalities.

The collapsed bridge was in the Ulubongka subdistrict. The 240 meter-long steel bridge was dedicated by the minister of public works in 1992.

The collapse of the bridge has cut off land communication between the regency of Baggai and Palu, chief of the Central Sulawesi public works office Raden Prajoga.

The local government is yet to calculate the material loss the natural disaster wrought, Antara reported. (pan)
