Fleeing bishop

As an Indonesian Catholic I have always been led to believe that a good shepherd will lay down his life for his flock. So what is Bishop Belo doing out there in Portugal, bowing and smiling and being embraced by the Portuguese dignitaries? Is he the good shepherd or is he the one sheep that is lost?

I cannot help wondering whether Father Sandyawan or the late Father Mangun would have done the same thing, i.e. taken the first flight to safety, had they been faced with the same situation as the one in East Timor.

Methinks that the reverend bishop should hand back his undeserved Nobel prize.
