Flag traders flood Jember

JEMBER, East Java: As Independence Day approaches, flag and banner sellers from West Java are flooding Jember regency.

Traders from West Java cities have set up stalls along Jember's streets, erecting red-and-white flags and banners on the sidewalks to promote their wares.

Ace Poswara, one flag seller, said business was usually brisk in the lead-up to Independence Day, adding that he could take home Rp 125,000 (US$13) per day, far above the normal Rp 20,000 a day.

Flag prices vary, with small ones being sold for Rp 10,000 to Rp 15,000 and larger ones for Rp 25,000 to Rp 30,000.
