Five taekwondoins to compete in Taiwan

SEMARANG (JP): Five local taekwondoins will represent Indonesia in the International Inter-University Taekwondo Championship in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, from March 29 to April 2.

Central Java taekwondo coach Singgih Indarto said the taekwondoins were being prepared for the 15th National Games (PON) in Surabaya, East Java, in June, along with the other five. Indarto, however, refused to mention their names.

"We are very proud because the Indonesian Tae Kwon Do Association (TI) has appointed five taekwondoins to compete in this world event. This is the first time that the association has entrusted fighters from Central Java to represent the country on the world stage," he said.

He said he had no idea of the strength of the other countries' taekwondoins.

"I'm sure that our taekwondoins will not give in easily to the other countries' fighters. The association has chosen our taekwondoins because they won the national inter-university taekwondo championship in Bali last year and they can also qualify for PON," he said.

He said that Japanese, South Korean and Chinese taekwondoins were the among most toughest contenders in Asia and the world.(har)
