Five perish in car crash

CIREBON, West Java: At least five people were killed in a collision between two cargo trucks in Pangenan district, Cirebon regency, on Monday night.

Three of the victims died instantly at the scene after the crash, involving a Toyota Dyna truck and a Mitsubishi box truck in Pangenanan village, around five kilometers from the Kanci- Palimanan toll road, at around 10:30 p.m.

The crash occurred when the Dyna truck, driving east at a high speed, failed to avoid large holes in the surface of the road. As the driver lost control of the vehicle the box truck appeared from the opposite direction.

"A collision was thus unavoidable. It caused severe damage to the two cars," Pangenan Police precinct chief Adj. Comr. Susamto said on Tuesday.

Earlier, a sedan, a minivan and two trucks were involved in a pileup on May 21 in the same road, killing at least three people. --JP
