Five kilos of gold robbed

JAKARTA (JP): Police are looking for eight men who made off with five kilograms of gold in an early morning robbery at the shop-house of a gold trader on Jl. K.H. Hasyim Ashari in Ciledug, Tangerang, on Saturday.

Tangerang Police chief Supt. Sapi'i Aksal said it was likely that the robbers were familiar with the house and its neighborhood.

"They moved very quickly and knew all rooms in the house," Sapi'i said.

According to the preliminary police report, the men gained entry to the house of Bunyamin, 42, at about 3 a.m. by knocking on the door.

The owner, who apparently was not suspicious of people visiting at such an hour, opened the door without hesitation.

The men, some armed with machetes, immediately tied up Bunyamin with a rope, the police report said.

After warning the house owner to remain silent, the robbers quickly took the gold jewelry from the shop.

The report said that the stolen jewelry was worth Rp 400 million (US$45,000) in total. (jaw)
