Five killed in toll road accident

BOGOR: Five people were killed after two Mitsubishi Kuda sports utility vehicles (SUVs) collided on Thursday evening at the 27th- kilometer marker on the Jagorawi toll road.

"Two Mitsubishi Kuda vans, one red and the other silver, collided during heavy rains on the toll road. Two died on the spot and the other three died at hospital," Bogor traffic police chief Adj. Comr. Yuli Kurniawan told Antara on Friday.

The dead victims have been identified as Roni Fajar, 31, a driver, Najib Avesta, 33, a resident of Taman Yasmin housing complex, Ira Jovita (address unknown), Umu Jamiah, 26, a resident of Budi Cupung housing complex, and Sunardi (address unknown).

The five victims were employees of PT Nestle Indonesia in Cisalak, Depok mayoralty, West Java.

Yuli said the collision happened at about 6:30 p.m. on Thursday after the Mitsubishi Kuda driven by Andi Wongso, who was traveling alone, swerved on the toll road heading into Jakarta and crossed over into the oncoming lanes heading to Bogor.

Roni Fajar, who was driving the other Kuda, was unable to avoid Wongso's vehicle because it was going too fast and was too close. It is not known whether the deceased were the only occupants of the car driven by Fajar.
