Five Indonesians head to World Power Lifting meet

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Weight Lifting, Power Lifting and Bodybuilding Association will send five lifters to Vienna, Austria, for the World Power lifting Championships scheduled from Nov. 11 to Nov. 19.

The association's general affairs manager Budi Santoso was quoted by Antara in Pringsewu, Lampung, as saying Thursday he was optimistic the musclemen would all snatch gold medals.

"Unlike our weight lifters, our power lifters are world- class," Santoso said during his visit to Lampung's weight lifting and power lifting training center in Pringsewu.

The five lifters in question are Sutristo of Lampung in the 60kg category, Sahroni, also of Lampung, in the 75kg category, Rohman and Komaruddin of West Java in the 53kg and 56kg categories respectively and Deriswan of Riau in the 67.5kg category.

Sahroni's inclusion on the team, however, is still questionable because he has just undergone a tumor operation on his chest.

"We are still considering whether or not to field Sahroni. But I will see how his condition has improved in a few more days," said Santoso who will be Indonesia's team manager in the championships.

Santoso said that in Vienna, in which a world power lifting congress will also be held in conjunction with the championships, he will propose that the sport be included in the Asian Games. (arf)
