SEMARANG, Central Java: Five people drowned in four towns in Central Java, including two small children who died together as they played in a pond, police here said on Thursday.
The coordinating center for control, communications and information at the provincial police said that in Klaten eight- year-old Amsori and seven-year-old Arifin were found dead in a 1.5-meter deep pond.
The two boys had come home from school and were playing near the water, when they apparently decided to jump in and drowned.
In Wonogiri in the village of Ngrawen Ngunggahan, locals found the body of 26-year-old Sentot floating in the Gajahmungkur reservoir. He was apparently fishing when he fell into the water.
Fourteen-year old Jumaroh died when she tried to cross a river in the Padamulya village in the town of Temanggung.
Subaidi, a 40-year-old security worker at PT Nyonya Meneer, drowned while he was fishing at the seashore. He apparently drowned after falling into the water. -- Antara
