Five drug dealer suspects nabbed

DEPOK: Depok Police arrested five suspected drug dealers and seized 1.7 kilograms of marijuana as evidence from them during a week-long antidrug operation.

Police arrested three suspects on Monday evening after receiving a tipoff from residents at Bakti Jaya subdistrict, Sukmajaya district. The suspects -- Babe, Asrul and Ekobudi -- were doing a transaction at Babe's house in the area when police made the arrest and seized 1.2 kg of marijuana in 39 small plastic bags. Police also confiscated Rp 370,000 (US$44) in cash.

From information from Asrul, police apprehended later on Monday another suspect identified as Dede, who lived nearby. Dede was arrested and the police found 500 grams of marijuana.

On Wednesday at 6 p.m., police also arrested a suspected putauw (low-grade heroine) dealer, Yohanes Sadewa, and seized five small packages of putauw.

The suspect told the police that he had sold 30 small packages on that day and earned around Rp 750,000. He also identified a person named Teha as his supplier. Teha is currently on the police wanted list.

Depok Police drug unit chief, First Insp. Tugiyono, said that the arrest was a good start to the year for police in their ongoing war against drug trafficking in Depok. -- JP
