Five dead in traffic accident

Five people were killed when a Suzuki van hit a minibus on a thoroughfare linking Bogor and Jakarta at Cimandala village, Sukaraja in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The fatalities, including a three-year-old and a six-year-old, were all passengers in the van which was driven by a man called Imanuddin.

It was suspected that Imanuddin had dozed off when the van collided with the minibus at around 2:30 a.m. The van crashed into the minibus which serves the route between Pulo Gadung and Ciputat.

It was not known yet whether there were any casualties from the minibus as its driver fled the scene as soon as the accident took place.

Three people, Imanuddin, 30, Budiantoro, 27, and Sri Isana, 22, died instantly at the scene while Caroline, 3, and Cintia, 6, passed away later during treatment at the nearby Bina Usada hospital. --JP
