Five-day week ineffective

AMBON, Maluku: Mayor Yohannes Sudiyono has decided the city's
civil servants will resume working on Saturdays, concluding that
the five-day week was not working after more than a one year
trial, Antara reported yesterday.

In a meeting on Wednesday with visiting members of
House of Representatives's Commission II for home affairs,
Yohannes complained that many of his office employees played
truant during the trial period of the scheme. "Many failed to
come back to the office after lunch," he said.

Many employees received a meal allowance of Rp 1,000 (US$2.90)
every day despite the fact that they then failed to show up for
work after their lunch break, Yohannes said. (01)
