Five arrested for drugs

DENPASAR, Bali (JP): Five alleged drug dealers have been arrested by Bali Police drug squad detectives.

Bali Police chief Brig. Gen. Wayan Ardjana said here on Wednesday that the five suspects, identified as Tatang Wiyadi (33), Nanang (41), Budi (36), Yuda (30), and Iqbal (33), were all apprehended on Tuesday.

The first four suspects were arrested in separate places in the Kuta area a number of hours before Iqbal's arrest. The arrests resulted in the police seizing 100 grams of hashish, 38 grams of heroin, 112 grams of marijuana, and Rp 4 million in cash.

Iqbal was arrested at around 8 p.m. local time in a small hotel on Jl. Mertasari, Kerobokan. The police found a total of 4.2 kilograms of marijuana stashed inside a suitcase.

The contraband is worth around Rp 200 million.

Ardjana said the police had yet to find out if Iqbal had dealings with the narcotics gang whose members were arrested in Jakarta on Monday in possession of 1.4 tons of marijuana.

A police source disclosed that busting Iqbal was not an easy job. "He never carried any marijuana with him."

"We assume that he always traveled without the drugs. He had somebody else bring the suitcase containing the marijuana to the specified address. We were very lucky last night that we managed to find the destination," the source said. (zen)
