FIVB complains of bad turn-out

JAKARTA (JP): Ruben Acosta, chairman of the world volleyball governing body, FIVB, took off his hat to Indonesia for a well- organized beach volleyball tournament in Kuta, Bali, but complained about the poor spectator turn-out at the two-week event.

Speaking after the final match on Sunday, Acosta said that the tournament, which ran from Sept. 13 to Sept. 24 and served as the qualifying round for the 1996 Olympic Games, was not accessible to prospective fans. He said that in another country such a tournament could have attracted 40,000 people a day.

Antara reported that people had to walk for two kilometers to reach the venue, which was inside the grounds of the Kartika Plaza Kuta hotel.

"The organizers should think about the right venue next time," Acosta urged. (amd)
