Fishermen return home
SABANG, Aceh: Ten of the 11 Acehnese fishermen imprisoned on the Indian island of Andaman since September 1995 have been brought home by the Indonesian warships KRI Sultan Thaha Syaifuddin and KRI Pati Unus.
Antara reported that the men, who arrived at the Sabang Naval Base Wednesday, were received by the base commander, Col. Fikri Samaf Guciano.
The 10 are Darlin, aged 36, Buyung, 30, Tarzan, 26, M Yatim, 26, Samsuar, 25, Mukhtaruddin, 20, M Jalil, 28, Darwin, 22, Jauhari, 31, and Buyung, 30.
Fikri said the 11th fisherman, Salmi Azis, was not brought home because his sentence runs until Feb. 28.
The fishermen were jailed for illegally entering Indian waters after running out of gas. (swe)
