Firms asked to set up union
Governor Surjadi Soedirdja is urging companies operating in the city with more than 25 workers to set up local chapters of the All Indonesia's Workers Union.
Surjadi said on Tuesday that there were 22,900 companies in the city with more than 25 workers and that 8,814 of them meet all the requirements to set up their own workers' unions.
"But thus far only 655 have set up the unions," he said.
"Nevertheless, out of the 655, only 612 have collective labor agreements with their employers," he said. (arf)
