Firm pollutes Gondrong River

TANGERANG: People in Gondrong, Tangerang, are threatening to close down a silk screen-printing factory that they claim is polluting the Gondrong River.

According to residents, the pollution from the factory, which they say is not properly licensed, has changed the river's color and rendered its water unsuitable for watering plants.

"We have warned the owner not to dump chemicals into the river, but to no avail," said a resident, Saridun.

Tangerang administration spokesman Achmad Choirudin said that the local authority would investigate the matter shortly. -- Antara
